Oh man, I LOVE Scoop! And hardly any lovers of Evelyn Waugh have read it. Its so perfectly satirical and sarcastic.

Oh, the bounty. What resonates is when you write “I can’t fall asleep without reading a few minutes…” My older kids, that I love to rip on, bought me a “Kindle Fire” for mother’s day. It came with a gift certificate. So I’m going to buy Kristen whatshername, and try to remember those days when my pillow was a portal to another world and age. But I’m going to make them make the purchase. Not that I *can’t* it’s just that menial technology is for those who made you stay up all night nursing them. I’m going to check to see if it gives you that little commission though. (sigh) I miss those nursing nights. It’s so ludicrous how that fills their ( and our) days and nights. Even how they nurse in their sleep. Doesn’t that melt your heart?? God bless her fat-cheeked little soul, you are making deposits into an account none of us can even fathom. What a good Mama. I’m getting ready to kick my 3-year-old out of my bed. It’s looking like the end of an era, but it was a good run, and makes me a tad wistful.

Not only is ‘Cold Comfort Farm’ hilarious, but there is an adapation of it for the radio by the BBC which you can download from Audible.com that I LOVE. The movie is good, but the radio play is better, longer, and more faithful to the book. And, yes, ‘Scoop’ and anything by Wodehouse!
You may want to link to a different edition of Cold Comfort Farm, as a lot of Amazon reviewers say that this particular edition is badly edited and dumbed down for American readers (no British colloquialisms — that’s no good!) Didn’t know anyone else outside of my book group that read Betty Mac Donald’s “The Egg and I”. Loved it.
Betty MacDonald wrote three other books, all equally hilarious. They are “The Plague and I”, Anybody Can do Anything”, and “Onions in the Stew”, I own all of her books, and read them yearly just because I love a good laugh!
Oh Mrs. Fordyce, I couldn’t agree more. “The Plague and I” . . . a hilarious look at life inside a tuberculosis sanitarium. Does it get any better? It does not.
