This post is extremely insightful. I will be sharing the candy/Christ analogy with my kiddos. Forgiveness, actual forgiveness, is definitely a process but the peace that comes once you have achieved it is liberating.
Your description of someone giving away candy for which they had waited their whole lives reminded me of a story that Mother Teresa told about a little boy who had never tasted chocolate, and when given his first piece, ran and gave it to his brother, and of the more famous story of her giving food to a Hindu family that was literally starving to death, and the mother splitting it and giving half to her Muslim neighbors who were “hungry too.” What grace!
